I am a writer and an editor. It’s hard to make a living as either of these things, so by day, I teach the English language to adult learners. Like most English teachers, I have unfinished manuscripts in the bottom desk drawer. Like most editors, there’s also a fifth under that manuscript. Like everyone, it’s hard to make time for the thing I love most.
This blog is me making time for the thing I love most.
It’s also my confessional. My sin is writing in private. It’s easy to fail when nobody knows about it. Here is my penance. Here is where I lay bare the neurotic vulnerabilities of writing. And if I’m lucky, I get to clarify my voice and polish my craft; but the stakes simply aren’t high enough unless I’m exposing myself to the possible derision of an audience. If “integrity is what you do when you think no one is watching,” then I could use a little work. An audience will keep me accountable. I hope.
